Area51: Environmental Policy
To increase our eco-friendliness, Area51 has identified environmental aspects of our business that can be controlled and influenced such as waste, recycling, energy and carbon offsets and created a policy to manage them.
- Waste / Recycling
- Reusing packaging & boxes if possible
- Utilizes electronic communication rather than printed material when possible
- Recycling practices including bins for employee use & recycling of toner & ink cartridges
- Promotes the “Buy Green” theory by striving to purchase environmentally friendly products & services
- Utilizes a “Green” shredding service
- Member of the City of Irvine Material Exchange, which encourages material reuse to divert unwanted material from landfills
- Energy Savings
- Area51 owns & occupies a 16,000 sq ft energy efficient building
- Effective use of natural light, supplemented by 100% fluorescent lighting
- Energy Star compliant business equipment
- Multiple programmable temperature control units are all zoned for optimal energy efficiency
- Plans for additional improvement include an energy audit for consultation on how to further reduce usage
- Carbon Offsets
- Limits emissions by reducing business travel and encouraging teleconferencing & telecommuting
- Bundles purchase orders to minimize greenhouse gas emissions from freight & logistics
- Strongly recommends the purchasing of carbon offsets from nonprofits such as carbonfund.org

- Currently ISO 14001:2004 compliant
